Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was injured during a hit and run incident in Whitburn over the weekend.

The 58-year-old had just left the bowling club on West Main Street at around 1pm yesterday and was crossing the road when he was involved in a collision with a white van.

Following the collision, the vehicle failed to stop and a member of the public came to the man’s aid.

He later attended at St John’s Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries to his legs.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their ongoing investigation to come forward.

Inspector Dougie Simpson said: “Fortunately, the elderly male did not sustain more serious injury but we remain keen to trace the driver of the van as soon as possible.

“Anyone who was in the area and witnessed the collision, or who has information that can help us locate this individual is asked to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, I would urge the driver to get in touch and help us establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
