A TRAIN was forced to stop after a driver saw two young boys sitting on the track.
The children – aged six and nine – were on the railway near Musselburgh as the 11.05am Cross Country service from Edinburgh to Penzance approached on Sunday.
The driver of that train had been alerted after a Scotrail colleague contacted his control room after he saw the two boys on the line near Wallyford Station.
The Penzance-bound service was delayed after the train stopped to take the youngsters on board before police collected them from the station.
A spokesman from the British Transport Police said: “At about 11.15am a driver of a Scotrail train reported seeing two young boys on the line in the vicinity of Wallyford Station, near Musselburgh.
“He reported it to his control room and the next train stopped and took the boys on board.
“Due to the age of the boys there will be no further action taken.”
