SEVEN people have been taken to hospital following a three vehicle pile-up on the city bypass.

The incident happened shortly after 5pm and involved a single-decker bus, a lorry and a car.

The Fire Service said seven people had been taken by ambulance to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the crash on the city bypass on the slip road at the Baberton Junction.

A spokeswoman for the Fire Service said four of the crash victims were “walking wounded” while the other three were taken away from the incident on stretchers. The bypass was closed eastbound, with long delays on the M8, A70, A71, Wester Hailes Road and Gillespie Road.

One driver said the incident had caused four-mile tailbacks eastbound on the M8.

Police Scotland were unable to confirm details of injuries.
