A MOTORIST and passenger are being treated by paramedics after their car crashed and caught fire on the M8.

The car is understood to have collided with a second vehicle at around 4.15 forcing the closure of a an eastbound section of the motorway.

The crash took place before junction 1 at Hermiston Gait.

Firefighters from Broxburn, Livingston and Sighthill attended the crash to extinguish a fire in one of the vehicles.

The condition of the two casualties is unknown.

Diversions are in place and motorists are warned to expect delays.
