It will be an event worthy of celebrating the best of Edinburgh. The finishing touches are being put to glitzy plans for the Pride of Edinburgh Awards 2014 on May 16.
The Evening News, in conjunction with Lidl, has pulled out all the stops for the event, which will be held at The Assembly Rooms and hosted by Forth One DJ Grant Stott.
Guests can also look forward to a three-course meal and entertainment from local talent including The Voice star Anna McLuckie, and both Edinburgh Has Talent winner Saskia Eng and finalists Dansation.
But that’s not forgetting the Capital’s unsung heroes who will be recognised for the selfless and tireless work so many of them do for their communities.
The Evening News has been following the nominations, which are now closed, with the judging now beginning in 14 categories. Individual prizes will be awarded before the ultimate Pride of Edinburgh trophy is awarded to one person who stands out from the rest.
Stott, who is “fiercely proud” of his Edinburgh roots, said it was an “honour” to be asked to host the event.
He said: “Edinburgh is a great city, so to find some of the unsung people who help make this city fantastic is what I’m really looking forward to.
“It will be a great night to celebrate and give credit to these people but I think it’s going to be a really good fun night and hopefully there will be a lot of laughs.”
Headline sponsors include Central Taxis, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Edinburgh City Council. Ben Slater, general manager of Central Taxis, said: “Central Taxis are delighted to be sponsors of the Pride of Edinburgh Awards 2014.
“As a co-operative, Central Taxis is owned and operated by over 400 members of the local community and employs over 1300 people in Edinburgh. The Pride of Edinburgh Awards is a perfect fit with our company values of supporting the wider community. We are proud to be locally owned and to service our community as well as the millions of visitors we welcome to the Capital each and every year.
Edinburgh is our home and we are passionate about being able to recognise and support people’s outstanding contributions to the city through these awards.”
