POLICE are investigating after a church was vandalised with the numbers 666, often referred to as ‘the number of the beast’.

The vandals struck St Anne’s Episcopal Church in Dunbar, sometime between 5pm on Saturday, December 14, and 12pm Sunday, December 15.

The letters BM and numbers 666 were painted onto the wall of the church with what appears to be white emulsion paint.

A car that was parked in the nearby Parsonspool area was also targeted with white paint. The owner has no connection with the church. The car has been cleaned and there appears to be no lasting damage.

Inspector Ian Mackay said: “This is an isolated incident but was nonetheless upsetting for those involved. It’s possible that someone may have noticed the suspect carrying white paint or may have noticed suspicious activity around the time of the incident. We ask that if anyone has any information then they should contact police on 101.”
