A NAVY veteran’s funeral was packed with mourners, following an appeal by the Evening News.

Thomas Musgrove died earlier this month. With no known family or friends, it was feared the pall-bearers and the celebrant might be the only people to attend today’s service.

Mr Musgrove, who spent the last five years in Gilmerton Care Home, served in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and died with no known friends or family.

But following a plea from the News, more than 50 mourners from all over the country filled the Pentland Chapel in Mortonhall to pay their respects to the 67-year-old.

Among them were volunteers from the care home, a navy veteran and several members of the Royal British Legion Scotland Rider Branch.
