A WAITER has been jailed after sneaking into a bedroom to rape a sleeping woman.
Simone Golini, 40, attacked the 32-year-old victim after she fell asleep at a party in Stockbridge.
She woke up to find her jeans pulled down and her top pushed up.
Golini, a former catering supervisor at Edinburgh Zoo, denied the charge and claimed the woman had consented to sex. He told a jury she only became upset when she
realised he was not using a condom.
The trial heard how he sneaked out of the house, leaving the woman crying in the arms of a friend.
It was days before she went to the police because she “couldn’t handle it”.
Friends told the trial that before the incident on May 6 last year, the woman had been “bubbly”, but after the party her personality had changed.
A jury at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday found Golini, of Saunders Street, guilty of rape by majority verdict. Judge Lady Wise called for background reports and remanded Golini in custody pending sentence next month.
