AN announcement that two Edinburgh-based charities will receive almost £25,000 in Scottish Government cash to help ex-servicemen and women has been welcomed.
The Craigmillar-based Thistle Foundation received £10,000 for a “lifestyle course” to help combat veterans, and Health in Mind was awarded £14,400 to support veterans and their families affected by mental illness.
Alex Lamont, an ex-military man who completed the Thistle Foundation course, said it “changed his life”. He added: “There are a lot of former service personnel needing help.”
Edinburgh Pentlands MSP Gordon MacDonald said: “I am delighted that the Scottish Government recognises the terrible mental scars which war can inflict on our soldiers.
“The grants are vital contributions to the fine work carried out by these charities.”
