A £130 MILLION project to deliver high-quality water to the Lothians has been awarded a commendation in the prestigious 2012 Saltire awards for civil engineering.

The Glencorse Water Project, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, is one of five civil engineering projects from across Scotland to have been given a commendation by the society this year.

The Saltire Society was founded in 1936 to improve the quality of life in Scotland.

The Glencorse Water Project is an innovative water treatment works serving 350 thousand customers. It involved the construction of 15 kilometres of large diameter pipelines into Edinburgh’s water network.

The judging panel said: “The project demonstrated how bringing all stakeholders together can result in the construction of a large-scale civil engineering project with minimum interference in a sensitive location.”
