AN abusive internet user who used his Facebook account to post racist messages has been ordered to perform unpaid work in the community.
Raymond Strachan, 21, used the website to promote his support of extremist group the Scottish Defence League.
Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard how Strachan visited various pages on Facebook and left messages on them in a bid to stir up racial hatred.
Strachan, of Dumbryden Gardens, was caught in January when police tracked him down after receiving complaints.
The court heard how the postings abused various racial groups.
Strachan was convicted of breaching the Public Order Act at a hearing last month and was yesterday sentenced to a community payback order which ordered him to perform 200 hours of unpaid work.
