A BUS driver has been attacked at the wheel by a female passenger angry at a diversion through Dalkeith.

Police are hunting the woman who began arguing with the 44-year-old driver of the the Number 40 bus as it drove on the diverted route through the town between 6pm and 6.30pm last night. After the bus stopped at the Thornybank Roundabout the woman slapped the driver in the face before getting off.

Police are now appealing for witnesses. The woman is described as white, 5ft 7ins, with a heavy build and straight black shoulder-length hair. She was wearing a black t-shirt, black jogging bottoms and white trainers.

A police spokesman said: “The driver was not seriously injured during this assault, but we are keen to trace the woman responsible
