A woman cyclist is in hospital with serious head injuries after the tandem she was riding collided with a bicycle in Gullane.
Police said the 54-year-old was on the tandem with a 49-year-old man in Main Street and were trying to overtake the other cycle when the accident happened at around 5.40pm on Saturday.
A police spokesman said: “She suffered serious injuries to her head and pelvis and was taken to hospital, where her condition is described as serious.
The other rider of the tandem suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital, but later discharged. The rider of the bike was uninjured.
“It seems the tandem was in collision with the single rider, causing the two riders of the tandem to fall off.
They were travelling in the same direction and it seems the tandem was trying to overtake the single rider.”
