A woman has died after a fire in a ground floor flat on Ferry Road.

Appliances from Crewe Toll and McDonald Road were sent to the flat at around 1.10am this morning.

Crews rescued a woman who was unconscious and suffering from severe smoke inhalation.

They performed CPR on her until ambulance crews arrived, but she was pronounced dead by paramedics.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Edinburgh responded along with other emergency services to an address in Ferry Road at around 1.10am on Thursday 3rd December following reports of a fire.

“A 53-year-old woman died as a result and inquiries into the full circumstances surrounding this incident are ongoing.”
