A WOMAN had to be rescued by firefighters after her foot became trapped under a double decker bus.
The incident took place near the Co-op store on Shandwick Place at around 10pm last night.
It is understood the 41-year-old woman fell off the pavement and collided with the side of the bus, causing the driver to slam on the brakes.
A Scottish Ambulance crew was first to reach the woman, whose toes were trapped under the rear wheel of the vehicle for at least 15 minutes.
Fire crews lifted up the rear of the bus to release her before she was taken to hospital.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police in Edinburgh responded to an incident in Shandwick Place after a woman suffered a foot injury following an incident involving a bus.
“She was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she continues to receive treatment.”
