A STAR of the World Cup will go on public show for the first time today at Edinburgh Zoo.

Dillon the three banded armadillo became an internet hit for his football forecasts during the tournament in Brazil.

The showbiz lifestyle runs in the blood as his dad appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Visitors can now find the YouTube star enjoying his new home in the corner of the Brilliant Birds aviary at the Capital attraction.

“Dillon’s been very lively,” said Gareth Bennett, senior presentations keeper. “He’s usually seen scurrying about the enclosure with his nose to the ground exploring round all the plants and trees.”

His friendly nature landed him a permanent spot in Edinburgh Zoo’s educational shows where he introduces and raises awareness of the work of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland on the Giant Armadillo Project in the Brazilian Pantanal.

The ecological study was the first to ever photograph giant armadillos in the Pantanal wetlands, and also managed to photograph a baby giant armadillo last year.

The popular South American creature will share his spacious enclosure with two yellow-footed tortoises, while a very colourful Mindanao bleeding heart dove also arrived in the aviary last week.

Mr Bennett added: “It’s by no means his retirement home either, he still loves taking part in animal handling sessions.”
