Former First Minister Alex Salmond says he wants Hibs boss Neil Lennon to manage Hearts.

Salmond, who has proven a hit with audiences during his run at the Edinburgh Fringe, is a lifelong Jambo.

He made the remarks during Friday’s performance of Alex Salmond: Unleashed at the Assembly Rooms.

Along with Lennon, Salmond suggested Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers would be a good choice.

“It should be Brendan Rodgers but if he’s not available then it should be Neil Lennon. I think he’s a hell of a good manager.

“There is a really great set-up at Tynecastle compared to what it was. So I’m sure they’ll make a good decision and we’ll be up there challenging Neil and Brendan for honours this year.”

Salmond also compared ex-boss Ian Cathro to Tintin.

He said: “Out last manager, I’m sure, was a wonderful guy.

“I’ve not actually met him, so this it totally unfair, but to me he had a resemblance to Tintin.

“I kept looking for Snowy the Dog,” he added.
