They say the key to a good photo is capturing the moment.

After climbing to the top of Calton Hill with a friend amateur photographer Hugo Simpson timed it perfectly with this beautiful photo looking west along Princes Street with the outline of Castlehill behind and the partially-obscured setting sun beyond that.

Amazingly he didn’t use anything more sophisticated than his mobile phone.

But the hugely powerful 16-megapixel camera on his Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge picked out the rooftop details as far as the eye could see as the sky shone in vivid colours on Valentine Day’s night.

Hugo, 27, explained: “My friend Marzahn is over from South Africa and I’ve been acting as her tour guide showing her the sights.

“I wanted her to see the sunset from Calton Hill and we just caught it right.”

And was she impressed?

“She says she wants to move here now. I’d like that.”

Who can blame her.
