Police say a man is in hospital after falling from a Canongate roof on Saturday evening after a three hour stand off with officers.

The Canongate had been closed to traffic from Jeffrey Street to the roundabout at Horse Wynd from around 3pm.

A 21-year-old was admitted to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment to multiple injuries after he slipped from the roof at 6.20pm.

Police say his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
