A CELEBRATION of the life of tragic French student Antoine Maury will take place this Saturday.

The 21-year-old’s body was found in Duddingston Loch earlier this month, following a frantic police search involving several specialist units.

The student had been missing since October 24 when he left the company of friends at Edinburgh College’s Milton Road East campus.

Mum Laura Maury urged friends, family and locals to attend a celebration of his life at Duddingston Kirk Parish Church on December 17, from 1pm to 4pm.

She wrote on Facebook: “I would like to take this opportunity (it will not be the last one) to thank you all for your kind, warm, loving messages.”

She asked mourners to “come as you are”, adding: “Wear your kilt, suit, jeans and sneakers, as you wish. That’s the way Antoine would had liked it. Lots of full Scottish dress would be great though!”

Police previously praised the “unparalleled” courage and dignity of Mr Maury’s family, and said they would continue to provide support.

Chief inspector Kevin McLean said: “I would like to thank those members of the public and media who assisted in our search.”

Mr Maury was born and raised in Paris but moved to St Andrews to study when he was 16. A report on the death has been sent to the procurator-fiscal.
