Two people have been injured in an “extremely violent” attack that started in an Edinburgh pub.
Police are appealing for witnesses after a fight broke out at the Spey Lounge on Leith Walk at about 1am on Saturday.
The “large-scale disturbance” spilled out into the street but those involved fled before officers arrived at the scene.
A 22-year-old man suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.
A woman, also 22, is recovering at home after being treated for minor injuries and discharged.
Police are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and a full review of the area’s CCTV is underway.
Detective Constable Ryan Lee said: “This was an extremely violent attack and we are keen to trace all parties involved as quickly as possible.
“Leith Walk is a busy part of the city and many people had been out watching the football match between England and Scotland.
“We are today appealing to anyone who was in the area and who saw what happened to come forward.
“We’re also keen to hear from motorists who were travelling on Leith Walk and who were forced to slow down in order to pass the group safely.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555.
