The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards 2017 are to be judged by the Capital’s Lord Provost Donald Wilson.

He will join former Celtic footballer Simon Donnelly, and Partick Thistle manager Ian Maxwell, on a judging panel next week at the Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline.

Butchers and bakers will gather at the event on Wednesday, claimed to be the “most prestigious pie competition in the world”, as judges sample entries before announcing the winners next year.

Titles up for grabs include not only the best Scotch Pie, but sausage roll and football pies and savouries. This year also sees the introduction of best macaroni pie. Winners will be revealed on January 11.
