For the first week of trading customers will be given 30 percent off selected meat and poultry and as well as other deals on nonfood products.

The new supermarket forms part of the company’s ongoing expansion and regeneration plans in the UK which will see its existing store portfolio 650 stores increase to up to 1,500. The 1424m² store has created nine new jobs and boasts state-of-the-art facilities including an in-store bakery, customer toilets, baby changing facilities and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.

Cllr Gavin Barrie, Chair of the EDI Group, opened the new Lidl store. The development marks a major milestone in the ongoing regeneration of Craigmillar, and is part of the EDI Group’s ongoing masterplan for the area.

Speaking at the opening of the new store, Cllr Gavin Barrie, Chair of The EDI Group said: “The opening of the brand new Lidl store in the heart of Craigmillar is not just great news for the local area, but is testament to its successful, ongoing regeneration.

“Along with the creation of new jobs, the new store will act as an anchor for the new town centre and will become a catalyst for further investment and opportunity in Craigmillar.”

Lidl UK’s Head of Property for Scotland, Gordon Rafferty, commented: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Craigmillar. It is wonderful for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area, and we can’t wait to start serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”

Lidl, which was crowned ‘Best Supermarket 2016’ by readers of Good Housekeeping, has experienced continued growth over the years.
