PEDRO MENDES has refused to set himself any goalscoring targets this season – but admits those he does score are likely to be a bit special.
The Portuguese playmaker added to his tally with a fine effort with the outside of his boot in extra-time against Partick Thistle on Wednesday night to spare Rangers' blushes and send them through to the quarter-finals of the Co-operative Insurance Cup.

He had previously opened his account with a 30-yard screamer against Celtic.

"I never score tap-ins," said Mendes. "Well, not in recent years. A long time ago, at Vitoria Guimaraes, I might have scored with a tap-in."

As for his strike against Partick, Mendes reckons it will probably be a one-off. "I have finished like that before, in training!" he joked. "I cannot actually recall ever having scored like that with the outside of my right foot in a game before."
