FORMER city council leader Ewan Aitken today threw his support behind East Lothian MSP Iain Gray in the race to lead the Labour party at Holyrood.
Mr Gray is expected to battle it out against former justice minister Cathy Jamieson and Andy Kerr, the party's public services spokesman at Holyrood, for the votes of party members, parliamentarians and trade unionists in the internal election.

The three MSPs are the front-runners in the race to succeed Wendy Alexander.

Cllr Aitken said: "He sees things others miss. Important things. I want real change in Scottish Labour and Iain Gray offers that fresh start, a new voice shaped by real experiences that people like me are looking for."

Aitken's support must count for a lot. He's got friends in high places. Like the sky.

"Throws his weight" hahahahah

Who, if anyone, outside of the EEN readership and the dwindling Labour Party faithful know who former councillor Ewan Aitken is?

Seriously now EEN, a slow news day perhaps, or just a chance to keep one of your favourite "party insiders" sweet for further comments by giving him publicity?

PS - as has been increasingly mentioned in recent weeks, there is no such thing as the Scottish Labour Party.

There is the Labour Party, in Scotland.

Iain Gray is vying to become the Labour group leader in the Scottish Parliament. Not the "Leader of Scottish Labour".

There is no such party and no such position.

Well done Reverend. Just what Grey needs. Given the financial shenenigans of wee wendy, the last thing Grey needs is support from the former leader of Embra cooncil who is so financially illiterate he claimed there was £50m left in the budget when the reserves were down to under £300k. Chube.

Searched the internet for a Scottish Labour Party and an address.

Nearest I could find is The Labour Party, John Smith House, 145 West Regent Street, Glasgow G2 4RE.
