LABOUR leadership contender Iain Gray today claimed First Minister Alex Salmond had "feet of clay".
The East Lothian MSP, who will officially launch his bid to succeed Wendy Alexander tomorrow, said he believed he was well placed to give Scottish Labour a fresh start and take on the SNP.

Asked in a radio interview about going head to head with Mr Salmond, Mr Gray said: "He is a big political operator, but I think he really does have feet of clay.

"There are certainly weaknesses and vulnerabilities we must expose."

Oh dear Mr Salmon, how do you manage to run around the country, speaking to us as you are doing, with feet of clay?

Rather a silly choice of phrase wasn't it Mr Gray?

Better to have feet of clay than a head full of clay which appears to be what is in the man from Currie's head

That'll be "feet" of seaweed, then.

I'd say that the two main waek points Alex Salmond has are Kenny MacAskill and Shona Robison.

One is a total looney who belongs in a second rate Monty Python sketch (if there is such a thing) and the other wants to "de-normalise" a significant minority of the Scottish population.

If he sacked that pair, he probably be a lot better off.

Name-calling rather than intellectual rigour by doomed Labour pigswill can only hasten their departure and long-term exile from the political scene. They are a disgrace.

Damn. You beat me to it!

Don't know much about Robison but MacAskill is a serious liability. He is embarrassingly useless, operating one-man policy on the hoof. Salmond needs to ditch him sooner (in a claypit preferably) before he destroys the organisation that has given him an undeserved political lifeline.

Feet of clay? Well I suppose that is better than a headful of cement!

The Labour leadership in Holyrood contest seems to be turning into a "who can make the dumbest statement today" contest.

So far a tie between Gray and Baron Zebedee.. and the rosy red nosed Baron is not even in the race.

And what better place than the EEN or Hootsmon to show these 'weak points'?

Bias? I'd just like to know what the connection is, who knows what, who has given money to Labour or what kind of hold they have to make the reporting so one-sided. I mean Labour ffs, they are a sinking ship, time to get some credibility back and grow a backbone, report the news and allow us to make up our own minds.

I suppose Gray has to say something. It's just that he's talking TOTAL MINCE.

I watched Prof Curtice on Newsnight on, Monday I think, talking about the slab leadership candidates. He was struggling to be polite but was none the less implying that they were political pygmies compared to Salmond. He was comparing Salmond to the likes of Blair and Hague but then didn't really know how to draw any comparisons for the viewers regarding the slab lot.

Very telling.

I think it's between Jamieson, Kerr and Gray. Charlie the illegal donation tapper Gordon and...the other one don't stand a chance.

I don't see much between the three but Jamieson may edge it as she is the only one of the three likely to hold her Seat in 2011. Kerr will lose his Seat to Linda Fabiani with just a 2.75% swing and Gray will lose his Seat to Andrew Sharp with just a 3.5% swing. Jamieson would need Adam Ingram to have a swing of 5.9% to be unseated...Mmmm, they could all go on the list, of course, but that would require a change in party policy.

As has been commented there are certainly weakness within the cabinet and of course Salmond himself is not without fault. However, you don't have to be Freud to know every human has more than one weakness nor Paxman to know every cabinet has weak links.

However all humans and all cabinets are capable of growing through their weak points or challenging aspects of their personality as our more positive thinking cousins in the colonies would say.

Interesting how young Curtis began to change his tune as the Glasgow East campaign progressed.

Not such a strident unionist these days.
Maybe rather fancies being an 'expert' on UK TV and with an eye to that continuing sees the writing on the wall re Independence and is steering a more middle course.

I mean who is going to employ an 'expert' who completely misreads the signs of a nation heading for Independence?
