Published Date: 23 July 2008
LIVINGSTON have approached Hearts with a loan offer for goalkeeper Anthony Basso and hope to lure the Frenchman to Almondvale following his fall from grace at Tynecastle.
Basso was left in Edinburgh by manager Csaba Laszlo on Sunday as the Hearts squad departed for their ten-day tour of Germany. He broke club discipline in an altercation with a reserve player last week and is now out of favour, alerting Livingston to
the prospect of brokering a season-long loan.

Tomasso Angelini, a director at Almondvale, also represents Basso as a licensed FIFA agent and wants his client to aid a possible promotion push from the First Division. The club's new Italian consortium have contacted Mindaugas Nikolicius, a financial official from Hearts' parent company Ukio Bankas Investment Group, to declare their interest in the player and are currently awaiting a response to their loan offer.

Basso's £2000-a-week contract is due to expire next summer but his future is certain to lie away from Tynecastle after Laszlo dropped him from the squad for Germany. The Hungarian has stressed his desire to recruit a new goalkeeper before the SPL season begins, which would leave the Frenchman fourth in line behind Steve Banks, Jamie MacDonald and the new incumbent.

Livingston's offer appeals to Basso but Hearts have yet to take a decision on his fate. He is currently training with the youth squad at the club's Riccarton academy.

Meanwhile, the agent of Hassan Wasswa revealed today that he has received no contact from Hearts regarding a possible trial for the Ugandan internationalist. Recent reports suggested Laszlo was interested in the midfielder but his representative, Kasule Mujib, stressed that a move is unlikely.

He said: "I haven't had any calls from Hearts. Csaba Laszlo worked well with Hassan and helped develop him with Uganda so I think this is why some people thought he would try to get him to Scotland. Hassan has not played 75 per cent of Uganda's games so I don't think he would get a work permit.

"He is currently on trial with Ajax Cape Town in South Africa and I think he will sign a contract with them."

Good luck Anthony, sorry it never worked out but you came at a rocky time and perhaps you underestimated the level of the SPL a little.

I think this would be a great move for him and hope I am betting on Livvy to come up this year... Any ideas on the odds for that anyone?

"Basso's £2000-a-week contract"
I'm sure folk round here told us it was more than that. They couldn't have been making it up could they?

I reckon he could have turned out OK for us, had a shaky start - but he did come in at a bad time - but, if he's picking fights within a few days of a new boss coming in he's making himself an obvious target for Csaba to use as an example to others. So I suspect that's that for Basso at Hearts. Agree that we need a new first choice keeper, but I would like to see MacDonald get a few games under his belt this year too.

Who?,

23/07/2008 12:31:07
#9 i'm sure i read in an article last season that he was on £8k a week.

Basso did quite well in some games and was pretty poor in others. His major problem like many other contenential goalkeepers is that he can't catch a cross or a swinging ball. Too many of them either punch it clear or parry it and let the ball bounch before finally catching it.

That sort of thing will never work in the UK.

#11 True. The list of half decent keepers from overseas who have failed to adapt to the UK is almost as long as the list of South American midfielders who have failed to adapt to the UK!
You wouldn't have thought goalkeeping was that different in different countries - the general rule of "stop the ball going in the net" applies wherever. But I guess when defenders expect you to do one thing, and you do another it throws the whole thing off kilter...

It is a shame about Basso as although i felt he had a ropey start to his Hearts career i felt that he improved substantially and made a few very good stops the times i had seen him. I am glad that Jamie MacDonald is getting his chance and would be delighted if he grabs this chance with both hands.

Rangers fans have no doubt reigned in their expectations a little... Back to the days of the eighties I would imagine.

Hearts have rejected a proposal put forward by Rangers and Celtic that would have meant the Tynecastle club incurring a 5% charge from the total ticket revenue generated from Old Firm fans who bought tickets to see their team at Tynecastle.

Hearts responded to the Old Firm proposal today.

Campbell Ogilvie, managing director, Hearts said: "We received letters from both Rangers and Celtic regarding a proposal to charge a 5% handling fee for the administration of those club's ticket sales at Tynecastle.

"We have made it quite clear that we will not accept any levy being deducted from tickets sold by either club in respect of matches being played between these clubs and Hearts at Tynecastle Stadium.

"We will therefore require to consider in detail how tickets will be distributed to supporters of Rangers and Celtic at forthcoming matches at our stadium."

We cut your allocation last season so I don't think it would hit us in that respect.

Just shows you that the unwashed have only their own interests at heart. They take more than the rest put together from TV fees etc and still want to do them over at all other counts. They usually steal or poach the best players from the rest (usually at a lower value than the players worth)and then complain when the competition isn't there. It seems to me that the aim of the OF is to destroy the rest of scottish football for their own gains.

"When DID Hertz last win a game? Any game?? Anywhere? Against ANYBODY??"

We just won 6 - 0 this evening if you'd bother to read the previous posts. Or is that beyond your capabilities?

They told me I wouldnt be up here very long.

"As soon as Hearts win a game you can come down."
Thats what they said- about six months ago.

Sorry pimp but can you please direct me to one of your posts that extracts the urine out of anyone? Please also direct me to a post of yours that says anything relevant.

Like your sidekick timmy "he talks and talks and talks and it is utter nonsense"

It is obvious to the normal human brain that the SPL team is not doing too well this year in pre-season,they are falling by the wayside and it looks like the moronic leader is going to be the only one left when the season kicks off.
A few decent results by the JT,s and he will be off mugging abandonded shopping trolleys again.

Not long now mate, not long now.

Im putting a right few bob on Hibernian to finish third in spl.

Maybe also consider a bob or two on yams to get relegated.

The guy is a crank of the highest order. It seems like he/she is definately showing signs of a mental breakdown. If we pump murderwell in the first game I can see a full cranium explosion happening.
