BILL LOTHIAN, the Evening News rugby correspondent, is closing in on a memorable golfing triumph – just as he's joined the senior ranks.
The Duddingston member is through to the last eight in the Lothians Handicap Matchplay Championship, having beaten Dunbar's Malcolm Bruce by two holes in the last round.

Lothian now takes on Mike Sinclair, a Duddingston clubmate who is representing Standard Life in the event.

Fourth-round results: E McRobbie (Glencorse) beat D Young (Harrison) 4 and 2; J Blyth (Craigielaw) beat B Palmer (Port Seton) 3 and 2; D Wylie (Turnhouse) beat A Preedy (Stewarts/Melville) by one hole; R Thomson (Travel Twenty) beat J Leyden (Glen) at 19th hole; G Gifford (Broomieknowe Home) beat C Burn (Swanston New) at 19th; A Speight (Gullane) beat D Mackie (Edinburgh & Leith Licensed Grocers) 5 and 4; B Lothian (Duddingston) beat M Bruce (Dunbar) two holes; M Sinclair (Standard Life) beat J Mortimer (Heriot's FP) 3 and 2.
