Two Scots, Emily Stewart (Edinburgh) and Elspeth Curran (Glasgow) have been named in the British women’s team of five for the World Universities Cross Country Championships in Lodz, Poland, on April 14.
Stewart is delighted to have made her first British team: “I’m really looking forward to the experience,” she said today.
Her coach Ian Whyte is also pleased: “It’s another little step in the right direction,” he said.
Stewart, a second year maths student at Edinburgh University, is ranked sixth in the UK for 3000 metres with her best of 9:10.82 and tenth in the 1500 metres in the final indoor ranking lists of the winter.
In the same lists, clubmate Chris O’Hare, the new US NCAA Indoor champion, tops the mile with 3:56.63, while Guy Learmonth (Lasswade) is third in the 800 metres with 1:47.84.
