Lynsey Sharp made her return to action after almost a year out through injury as she took part in a 4x400 metres relay at the Tom Jones Memorial meeting in Florida.

The Capital athlete teamed up with Desiree Henry, Annabelle Lewis and Anyika Onuora as they came second in the event in Gainesville.

Sharp flew to the United States last Wednesday but kept her low-key return to the track a secret – only informing her team-mates of her decision to run.

The 23-year-old, who underwent ankle surgery last October, is yet to run below the 800m qualifying time of 2mins 02.8 secs in order to qualify for this summer’s Commonwealth Games and will step up her bid in the coming weeks.

The reigning European 800m champion said: “It felt great to be out there racing.”
