AAA Under-17 champion Ben Robbins (Edinburgh AC) beat his best time for the third week in a row in winning the 400 metres for Scotland in 48.28 seconds at the UK School Games in Sheffield on Saturday.

The 16-year-old George Watson’s pupil finished almost a full second ahead of his nearest rival and yesterday helped the 4x400m relay team also win. Clubmate Katie Purves (Dalkeith High), who like Robbins is coached by Dave Goodall, also made it three PBs in a row, winning the 300m hurdles in 42.66 seconds, second only to Eilidh Child on the Scottish under-17 all-time list.

She too helped the Scottish 4x300m team to victory. Ciaran Wright (Falkirk) was another Scots winner, taking the hammer with a throw of 66.93m.

At the Central AC Championships at Grangemouth Kimberley Reed (EAC), competing as a guest, had another fine hammer throw to win with 57.50m. Ross Houston (Central) was beaten to the Scottish 10k road title at Stirling yesterday by Josh Lily (Birmingham), who clocked 30:31 to Houston’s 30:32. Fiona Thompson (Central) was first woman in 34:56.
