Edinburgh Athletic Club athlete Emma Nuttall enjoyed a record-breaking return to action following an injury lay-off.

The student, who studies in Canada, set a meeting record of 1.82 metres in the Harry Jerome Memorial Indoor Games in Richmond, British Columbia.

It was here first competition since injury cruelly wrecked her chances in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The former pupil of Craigmount High who is in her final year of an athletics scholarship at Trinity Western University in BC, decided not to attempt a further height after winning the competition, her first since incurring a back injury at Hampden last August.

“It’s great to be back,” she said. “I decided to stop once I’d cleared 1.82m as I wanted to be safe,” said the former UK (Outdoor) champion whose all-time best is 1.88m.

“I’m looking forward to being able to jump off a full run-up when 100 per cent fit – hopefully it won’t be much longer.”
