Olympic golden girl Jess Ennis has pledged to return to Edinburgh in future after withdrawing from Saturday’s Women’s Athletic League meeting at Meadowbank, citing a stiff left Achilles tendon.
Hepthathlon champion at London 2012, several hundred tickets had already been sold to see Ennis represent her club, Trafford AC, in hurdles, javelin and long jump events.
However, she said: “Obviously I am really disappointed, but I am not going to take any risks. I have been told if I rest this now I should be able to resume my competitions as soon as possible – hopefully next week. I am sorry to all the people in Edinburgh who planned to come and support me alongside the other athletes – but hope I can compete there another time.”
