IT IS a tribute to hammer thrower Kimberley Reed’s progress this year that the 18-year-old Edinburgh University student, who was runner-up for the national senior title earlier this month, is still eligible for age group honours.

After the final Hammerama meeting at Livingston a week tomorrow, she will travel to Birmingham to help Team Edinburgh in the under-20 age group of the (British) Youth Development League.

Edinburgh AC are taking two busloads to the Alexander Stadium for the under-13 and under-15 events on the Saturday and another two for the under-17 and under-20 events on the Sunday.

Not content with that, Reed also intends to throw at the Central AC Championships at Grangemouth the following Saturday.

“I want to get over 60 metres,” said Reed, who moved her best up to 58.99m at the Scottish Seniors at Scotstoun. If she succeeds in that aim, she would have less than a metre to find for the Glasgow 2014 standard (61.00m).
