Capital star Lynsey Sharp (Edinburgh AC) posted her fastest 800 metres time of the season so far when she finished second to Renelle Lamote of France in Rehlingen, Germany.
Sharp was timed at 2:01.93 with Lamote clocking a swift 1:59.4. Though slightly disappointed with her time, the Commonwealth Games silver medallist knows it is still early season and big tests lie ahead. The first of these will be at the Prefontaine Classic Grand Prix meeting at Eugene, Oregon, this weekend. Sharp’s American commitments mean that her clubmate and Scottish cross country champion Maddie Murray will get the chance to run the 800 metres for the Scottish champions in the European Club Championships in Mersin, Turkey, this weekend.
Edinburgh AC, who were fifth in this meeting last year in Portugal, face a tiring trip as they fly out tomorrow to Istanbul, then fly on to Adana before another one-hour bus journey to Mersin.
Team manager Anne Scott is delighted that three of last year’s Scottish Commonwealth Games team Sarah Warnock (long jump), Kirsty Yates (shot) and Susan McKelvie (hammer) will all be lending their support.
Neither of the Glasgow 2014 high jumpers, Emma Nuttall (injured) and Jayne Nisbet (retired), are available.
