Basketball: Blaze of glory for Boroughmuir

Boroughmuir Blaze enjoyed a triple triumph in the Scottish League play-offs when their senior men beat Glasgow Storm 69-54 to reach the semi-finals and their junior and cadet men both won their finals.

Edinburgh University beat Edinburgh Kings 66-55 in their play-off quarter-final, but their reward will be a semi-final against Falkirk Fury, the Scottish League and Cup champions, who have not lost a game all season.

Blaze will play the winners of the St Mirren v Glasgow University quarter-final, which is due to take place at St Ninian’s HS, Glasgow tomorrow night. The Blaze youth teams were emphatic winners at Grangemouth Sports Complex on 
Saturday, the juniors beating the league champions Kings 79-52, despite 27 points from Kings’ guard Finlay Wood, and their cadets beating St Mirren 83-74.

Kings seniors led EU 20-13 after the first quarter at St Leonard’s SC yesterday, but the students, despite being in foul trouble, regained control, taking the second quarter 19-11 to lead 32-31 at half-time and went on to justify the seedings and reach the last four.

Top scorers for the uni were Jac St John with 18, Chris Evans 17 and Ben Warrington with 14.
