Edinburgh Kool Kats open their Scottish basketball league season with a three-team away trip to Falkirk tomorrow to face Fury in the senior (1.50pm), junior (5.30pm) and cadette (3.40pm) women’s league.

After the disappointment of only finishing third in last season’s senior table, after tying on points with eventual champions Polonia Phoenix but losing out on the head-to-head, coach Ben Gunn and Kats will be keen to get off the mark with a convincing win against the team who were sixth in last season’s seven-team league. That league of course has now been reduced to six with the withdrawal of Pentland Star.

With coach Brian Findlay stepping down after many years service the junior women have a new coaching team in the shape of his daughter Emma, a senior Scottish cap, as well as Tracey Phillips, another Scottish cap and possibly the club’s most experienced player. Kara Gillies and Chelsea Stinson are in charge of the cadette team who not only play Fury tomorrow but also have a friendly against St Mirren on Sunday.
