Great Britain Olympic basketball star Kieron Achara could be in the Falkirk Fury side to play Edinburgh Kings in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Portobello High on Saturday.
The 6ft 10in centre, who had been playing for the Glasgow Rocks while chasing another pro contract in Europe, quit the BBL side last month.
With many European clubs strapped for cash due to the financial crisis Achara rejoined his former Scottish club Falkirk last week and scored 21 points, dominating the rebounds in Fury’s 80-67 home win over Glasgow University at the weekend, though he also hurt his arm in a collision.
Kings meanwhile found St Mirren lively rivals at Portobello on Saturday as the Paisley side, led by Nic Collins with 16 points in the first quarter, took the lead 52-51 with two minutes left of the third quarter and were only three down with four minutes left of the game.
With Collins well policed by Ed Rekis and Lee Reilly hitting ten points in the last quarter Kings won 75-57 with Reilly hitting 28, Rekis 19 and Simon Flockhart 11.
Edinburgh Kool Kats enjoyed one of their best ever results against St Mirren in winning 79-49. Shauna O’Connor had 15 points, Hannah Peacock and Louise Gray 12 each, Lauren Walker 11 and Tracey Phillips ten. Polonia Phoenix defeated Fury 81-45 at Falkirk with Lynsey Campbell hitting 16, Beth Mackie 15 and Les Jackson and Claire Paxton 13 each.
