Basketball: Scots women to face Iceland in semi

Have your say

Committing no fewer than 29 turnovers, Scotland women lost 70-45 to hosts Austria in their group decider of the European Small Countries Basketball Championship in St Polten.

After their opening wins over Azerbaijan and Wales, the team struggled against the physical pressure of bigger opponents. They will now play Iceland, the other group winners, in tomorrow’s semi-finals.

Rhona Corkindale (Glasgow Rocks) with a double double, 13 points and 13 rebounds, Becca Allison (Edinburgh Kool Kats) collected 11 points and Gillian Baird (Falkirk) with ten points led the Scots.

Meanwhile, ex-Edinburgh Kings power forward Grant Mackay (North Berwick) scored nine points as Great Britain lost 76-57 to Spain in the European Under-20 A Championship in Crete.
