Coach Iain Maclean has named five Capital players in the Scottish men’s basketball team to contest next month’s European Small Nations Championships in Gibraltar.
They include two former Edinburgh Kings team-mates, who have returned to the international fold after a gap, guard Laurie Costello, now with Boroughmuir Blaze, and Simon Flockhart.
Costello is joined in the team by Blaze team-mate and former Kings and Scotland junior Eoghan Dover, while Flockhart’s Kings clubmate Garreth Lodge gets the nod along with another former Kings player Lee Reilly, who is now playing with Gotha Rocket in Germany.
Near veteran Flockhart is delighted: “I’m proud to be part of the national team again after missing the last tournament in San Marino in 2012 and I’m feeling good and ready to play a part in finally getting Scotland to win the Euro C title.”
Scotland face Malta on July 7 and Wales on July 8 in their group while the other group comprises Andorra, San Marino and Gibraltar.
Team: C Cleary, F Glass, N Collins (all St Mirren); L Costello, E Dover (both Boroughmuir Blaze); G Lodge, S Flockhart (both Edinburgh Kings); C Nicol (Glasgow Univ); L Reilly (Gotha Rockets); J Bunyan (Falkirk Fury); D Bennett (Eastside Eagles); T Adorian (Hemel Storm).
