Scotland’s junior men lost narrowly 64-58 to a Sweden Under-17 team in the second of two basketball internationals at Portobello High School, having won the first game against the visitors 67-59 the previous evening.

“We got what we wanted out of it, there were loads of positives” said Scotland coach Doug Reilly, whose team are preparing for the European B Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria next month.

Fraser Malcolm (Falkirk Fury) and Eddie Matthews (Newcastle Eagles) led the Scottish scoring with 13 points each in the second game, while Matthews with 17, Findlay Wood (Edinburgh Kings) with 16 and Malcolm Winning (Boroughmuir Blaze) with 15 led the home side in the first game.

Great Britain senior women, including Scot Erin McGarrachan, scored another excellent victory in their European Championship qualifying group, defeating Macedonia 71-60 at Worcester yesterday to go joint top of the group with Lithuania, who went down to a shock 91-81 home defeat to Belgium yesterday.

Team GB can win the group if they beat Lithuania in their final game at Worcester on Wednesday.
