Edinburgh University basketball team crashed to a fifth defeat, losing 61-56 at Troon Tornadoes on Saturday while Edinburgh Kings travelled to beat Glasgow University convincingly 82-67 at the Stevenson Building.

“That was our worst performance for three years,” claimed Edinburgh Uni coach Danny Costello, whose team, struggling with injuries, failed to find the target with any consistency while Troon’s Scotland guard Ifedade Thomas scythed through their defence at will and ended up the game’s top scorer with 20.

Yet after losing the first quarter EU, with Chris Evans injured and Laurie Costello also out, were still in contact at 45-45 with a quarter to go.

Gert Marisalu with 18 and Andreas Pantziaros with 12 (all threes) were the only players in double figures for the students.
