EAST Lothian bowlers delivered a winning performance against arch-rivals Midlothian on away territory at Newbattle, a 132-107 victory thrusting them to the top of the East section table in the Hamilton Trophy.
Wins for rinks skipped by Brian Young, Alister Kennedy, Derek Oliver and Billy Mellors cushioned defeats for Steven Morgan and Alex Marshall.
East Lothian rocked the home side with a 52-29 domination of the opening seven ends, Midlothian edged the second phase 40-36, then EL won the third, 44-38. Young was inspirational, skipping Ken McCrorie, Scott Logan and Jamie Higgins into a 16-5 lead at ten ends over John Stevenson then winning 32-14.
Kennedy also contributed a double-figure success, having made a blitz start to lead 13-1 after six ends then skipping Ross Irvine, Richard Black and Scott Kennedy to a 26-14 win over Danny McDougall. Ramsay Blair of Midlothian skipped Stephen Currie, Neil Gibson and George Yuill into a 17-6 lead then defeated Alex Marshall 23-12.
