Bowls: Edinburgh & Leith launch their League Cup bid in style

The Under-25 brigade of Edinburgh & Leith launched their Scottish League Cup bowls campaign with an impressive 139-95 away victory over Fife at Kinglassie.

Wins on five of the six rinks skipped by Dean Thomson, Euan Craig, Josh Spalding, Nicky Brown and Scott Noble, plus a two-shot setback for Neil Watson made it a strong team performance from E&L.

Thomson opened up an 11-3 lead after seven ends and skipped Darren Prentice, Steven Rennie and Dean McNeil to a 28-17 win over D Thomas.

Craig lead 14-7 then skipped Glen Walker, Donald Forsyth and Gavin Rogers to a 24-13 win over G Lynch.

Spalding skipped Kerr McKail, Chris Conway and Daniel Gormley into a 26-17 win over A Stein. Brown skipped Dean Mackintosh, Ross Nisbet and Ross Noble to a 20-12 win over C Stein while Ross Byers, Danny McKendrick, Stephen Pringle and Noble beat A Thomson, 24-17.

Watson was edged out 19-17 by Allan Ramsay.
