BLACKHALL’S George Kirk has enjoyed plenty success in the knockout events of the Edinburgh Bowling League and he will bid to further enhance his reputation in the 2013 ABT Machine Tools-sponsored singles final after seeing off Malcolm Weir of Whitehouse and Grange in the semi-final at Parkside.

Kirk, a member of the E&L team that etched its name on this year’s Hamilton Trophy, will face Hillside’s Colin Hairs in the final on Saturday, September 7 in what promises to be an exciting showdown.

In the semi-final, Kirk was severely tested by Weir but rose to the occasion in a thrilling climax to clinch a 21-19 victory in 24 ends.

Kirk led 6-0 but was crossed 10-8 before embarking on a seven run that accelerated him to 18-10.

However, Weir was far from a spent force and fought back strongly to stand peels at 18 then stay bang in the picture at 19-19.

A sizzling finish from Kirk, who nailed the jack over the next two ends resolved the melting pot situation as he carded successive singles to 21.
