FORMER indoor bowls world champion Alex Marshall could not prevent his East Lothian team suffering a damaging home defeat to Falkirk in the A section of the Premier League.
Marshall was making his return after a spell in Australia but losses on the rinks skipped by Willie Wood, Billy Mellors and team captain Graham Robertson saw the home side collapse to an 86-57 defeat.
Marshall did manage to save the embarrassment of a complete whitewash at home but only just, as he skipped Jamie Higgins, Gary Darling and Scott Kennedy to a 19-19 peel with Tom Cochrane.
“This is a depressing defeat but Falkirk did show the form that helped them reach the play-off final last season,” said a spokesman for East Lothian.
Meanwhile, Midlothian got themselves off the mark at the third time of asking and were good value for their 76-60 away win over a Coatbridge side that remain pointless.
Coatbridge edged the first seven-end phase 33-31, but Midlothian won the second 26-20 and the third 19-7.
Wins for the rinks skipped by Colin Walker, Billy Peacock, and Ronnie Duncan made up for a disappointing defeat for their icon figure David Peacock.
