DISTRICT 14 returned to Maitland BC on Saturday to stage their finals of the Senior Singles and Senior Fours and the headline performance was served up Ian McDonald of Northern BC in the Singles.
McDonald came under siege in the early stages to trail Jim McLeod of Craigentinny 12-4, but he was able to rally to ten with a 1, 2, 3 reply before looking like he was again fighting a losing battle at 17-12 down.
McLeod failed to find the killer touch and found himself in bother as McDonald roared to 19 with a run of 3, 2, 1 and 1 and three ends later clinched a 21-18 victory.
Tanfield lined up in the Fours with a strong rink in the shape of George Tuff, Charlie McLaren, Marshall Shearer and 1984 national singles hero Willie Paul at second. Paul and his rink-mates converted a 13-4 lead into a 19-10 victory over Jim Wallace, Dougie Hay, Bob Clayton and Bob Linton of Dean.
Meanwhile, the final of the Mixed Pairs, to be played at Craigentinny on Sunday, June 23, will feature Jean Lavin and BJ Smith of Hillside against London Road Foundry sister and brother duo Gillian and Scott Mackintosh.
