Queensberry have moved into third place in the Alpha Trophies Edinburgh Bowling League after a 9-0 victory at home to Northern.

Double-figure triumphs for the rinks skipped by John Kidd and Frank O’Reilly were supported by wins from Alan Watson and Brian Pollard.

Kidd skipped Ryan Lynch, Stewart Steven and Paul Kirkland to a 28-9 win over Larry Sorrell. O’Reilly accelerated from 4-4 to 15-4 with counts of 1, 1, 3, 3, 2, 1 as he skipped Mick Imrie Jnr, Brian Larkin and Jordan Davidson to a 24-8 win over Ian Miller while Chris Conway Jnr, Mick Imrie Snr, Paul Manson and Alan Watson converted a 10-2 lead into an 18-10 win over David Scott.

Pollard did lead 10-2 early doors but was 16-17 adrift going into the last when he conjured a 3 to skip Colin McKenzie, Jim McDougall and Colin Jones to a 19-17 victory.

Defending champions Craigentinny were at home to foot-of-the-table Summerside and they delivered a 9-0 blitz.

It’s a win that fires Craigentinny into the top position, two shots ahead of early leaders Maitland who were 7-2 winners at home to Leith.

Andrew Caldwell was the big hitter for Craigentinny with the team manager skipping Darren Smith and Grant McLaren to a 25-10 win over David Snodgrass.

Willie McDonald doubled his score from 7-3 to 14 with counts of 3 and 4 then delivered a 22-13 win over Keith Taylor while Andy Jeffrey added 4, 4, to cross 17-13 and win 19-13 against Peter Miller. Kevin McFarlane turned a bowl out for a reward of four shots to lead 17-12 then battled to a 16-14 win against David Poole.

Maitland celebrated wins on the rinks skipped by Graeme McIntosh, Alan Flockhart and Alan Trotter but Brian Higgins was unable to cope with Leith skip Robert Sloan.

McIntosh included two counts of 5 to skip Falconer Mitchell, Alan Sharp and Gordon Clark into a 12-6 lead over Craig Ramsay and went on to win 29-18 while Flockhart beat Drew Dodds 18-12. Trotter finished 3, 1 to snatch a thrilling 16-15 win over Gavin Ramsay but Sloan kept Leith on the map by skipping Graham Walker, Wilkie Day and Robert Wood to a 23-15 win over Higgins.

Parkside beat Hillside 6-3 with wins for Robert Donaldson (19-9) and Derek Smith (17-14) plus a peel for Paul Veitch (16-16) tipping the scales for the home side. BJ Smith, for the visitors, beat Neil Watson, 18-10.
