West FIFE top the East section of the Cities & Counties bowls Championship with eight points after five of the seven matches but it is only on shot margin (94) from West Lothian (68) and Edinburgh & Leith (64).
West Lothian were taken right down to the wire (101-101) before beating Midlothian 115-102 in their top-of-the-table clash played in front of a good crowd at Kirkliston.
Wins for the rinks skipped by Grant Logan, Neil Speirs and Raymond Logan carried the day for WL for whom John Aitken, Steven Fleming, and Thomas Mann suffered setbacks. Grant Logan made a massive contribution when skipping Steven Forrest, Greg Logan and Mark Allison to a 4, 1, 3, 2, 3, 2 finish to beat Colin Walker, 27-12 while Ray Logan also helped tip the match scales with a late run of 2, 2, 2, 1, 2 to beat David Peacock, 21-12.
Aitken helped the WL cause with a 4 at the last against Colin McFarlane and Fleming did his bit with a 1, 1, 1 finish when the chips were down.
Grant Logan 27, Colin Walker 12; Neil Speirs 21, Craig Hodge 10; Ray Logan 21, David Peacock 12; John Aitken 20, Colin McFarlane 22; Steven Fleming 14, Jim Gibson 17; Thomas Mann 12, Graeme Archer 29.
