Colin HAIRS cut things fine at 15-14 down to Gavin Ramsay of Leith in last night’s singles clash at Willowbrae but produced a 3, 3, 1 finish to carry the Hillside banner into the semi-finals of the ABT Machine Tools-sponsored Knockout Championships of the Edinburgh Bowling League.
Hairs was 11-3 up but Ramsay cut his deficit and led 15-14 before Hairs’ late rally.
Corstorphine ace Joe Blair beat Peter Gerrard of Postal 21-16 at London Road Foundry, while David Poole of Summerside sank Gordon Clark of Maitland21-17 at Craigentinny. Robert Donaldson of Parkside overcame Jim Melles of Blackhall 21-11 at Hillside.
The junior singles saw Murray Baillie of West End beat Kerr McKail of Summerside 21-15 at Willowbrae, while Darren Prentice of Northern enjoyed a 21-14 win over Mark McIntosh of Maitland.
Willowbrae challenger Paul Archibald beat Daniel McCaskell of LRF 21-14 at Craigentinny, while Josh Spalding of Craigentinny walked over against Neil Watson of Parkside when the latter pulled out on realising he would be away on holiday on the date of the final.
The pairs at Hillside saw Dean Mackintosh and David Kyle of LRF snatch a 15-13 win over Graeme Hyslop and Craig Duffus of Willowbrae.
Craigmillar Park’s Paul Ingles and Walter Vassie beat Mick Imrie and John Kidd of Queensberry at Willowbrae.
Willowbrae’s trio of Richard Dall, Richard Dimelow and Pat Dall battled to a 14-11 win over Postal in the triples clash at Hillside, while the Tanfield fours rink of John Hunter, Alan Ross, Charlie McLaren and Andy McNab beat Ian Barclay, John Wilson, Neil Nisbet and John Wood (skip) of Summerside 15-12.
